Update 11/10/05 from Jayne Jones
To update you on the arena project the city has agreed to be a co-applicant with us on the coastal commission permit. This will save $2,000.00 in fees for the project. Our contractor Gary Clapp of G&F Barns met with flood control about a month ago along with myself and Dave Kiff. They are in favor of the project and need to be involved to insure they will have access for their trucks if the need arises.
I have been in contact with the coastal commission. The application is 90% done and will be submitted by early next week. We are hoping for approval at their December meeting. The process should go fast and smoothly as this project was approved by the Coastal Commission in 2001.
Our goal is to break ground after the first of the new year depending on weather. It is a simple project that should be completed in less than 30 days once it is started.
Update 9/05 Report from Jayne Jones The Equestrian sub committee met at the arena area and went over dimensions and materials. It was agreed that the committee will get bids from a list of contractors we have compiled and submit the bids to the city as soon as possible. Dave is following up with the county and city as to the status of permits and approvals. We all agreed to have the bidding process complete by the next PAC meeting, construction should not take much longer than 30 days as arena railing is pre made and just needs to be installed.
Update 8/05 This project is now within the City’s schedule of Capital Improvement Projects (“CIP” Items). It will either be managed by Public Works or General Services at the City. Dave needs to square the project manager away before the project will get going. At the same time, the City needs to know from the County what it will take to get a permit (probably an encroachment permit) from the County Flood Control District to construct the arena on this County property.
