Christmas and New Year often overshadow the Thanksgiving Holidays. In many ways however Thanksgiving is more important than these other holidays and a time to reflect on the year past. Lets not forget Thanksgiving Dinner which is a major highlight of the holiday. It's often the case that the host will make preparations well ahead of the actual day to ensure Thanksgiving dinner is the best it can be.

Many Moms take pride in the fact they are preparing a feast for Thanksgiving and work very hard to make sure it is a success. Thanksgiving Recipes in many cases have been passed down through generations and are special to that family.

If you live far away, you sometimes have to choose between visiting home for Thanksgiving or Christmas. It's not always possible to travel home for both holidays. If you are faced with such a decision, one option is to alternate each year. They may make it home one year for Thanksgiving and the next year for Christmas. In terms of travel, its usually easier to book air or train tickets for thanksgiving Thanksgiving. Christmas holidays on the other hand do require that you book well in advance to have any chance of getting a seat.

One big attraction for many people is the four day holiday during Thanksgiving. Some businesses will open up on the Friday but many keep the doors shut until Monday morning This make the decision to travel for the long weekend easier. The day after Thanksgiving is also know for its low prices sales and some shops offer the best deals of the year. The day after Thanksgiving will also see many folks starting to decorate their home for Christmas.

You don't need to choose between Thanksgiving and Christmas or any other holiday for that matter. There are still many events and thinks to do during the Thanksgiving holidays to have fun and enjoy yourself. You really don't have to alone on Thanksgiving as many entertainment venues host special meals and events for singles. There is no reason to spend Thanksgiving alone unless you choose to be. This means Thanksgiving 2011 too. Ask around and you will find that not everyone goes home for Thanksgiving. Why not invite them around to your place for a dinner cooked by you.
